How to Enjoy a Honeymoon in the UK
Here at Coastal Tents we are excitedly talking to our couples who are due to get married this year. With restrictions starting to ease, in just a few weeks time weddings with thirty guests can take place, yay! And we have everything crossed that come the 21st June, weddings will be happening without any restrictions at all! So… get the champers on ice and start taste testing your menu choices…
When it comes to honeymoons, the path to international travel isn’t yet quite so clear. The Global Travel Taskforce is currently still setting out their recommendations. While it‘s looking likely that you will be able to book holidays from mid-May, countries will be categorised in a traffic light system with varying conditions to travel. With this in mind, we thought we’d pop together a few UK ideas for those of you considering a home-based honeymoon.
The UK has so much to offer and while you may not have considered a luxurious or romantic home-based break in the past, when you start looking, we bet you’ll be pretty surprised by the options!
Adult only relaxation
If you want maximum peace and relaxation during your honeymoon, choosing an adult only hotel is a good option. They tend to offer a chilled out and romantic atmosphere, high quality cuisine, luxurious rooms and couple-focused activities. The Scarlet in Cornwall is a luxury eco-hotel in Cornwall and is the perfect place to unwind together after your wedding. With cliff top hot tubs, an Ayurvedic inspired spa and a restaurant run by a three-time award-winning chef you are sure to find the haven that you deserve!
For the love of food
Have you tuned into the BBCs latest ‘Remarkable Places to Eat’ yet? We were thrilled to see the fabulous Fred being shown some of our very own local delights by Chris Bavin in the New Forest last week. If you are foodies, then why not design your honeymoon around your love of food? The food scene in the UK is getting better and better with each region offering some exceptional local gems. We all ready knew how good The Pig is, as its Studland hotel is just down the road from us, but you can see Fred and Chris discovering their incredible food philosophy and 25 mile menu if you tune in on iplayer.
Choose an activity
If you’d like a more active pace to your honeymoon then why not consider trying a new activity during your break? This can be a fun way to connect and create a new joint hobby that you can continue together when you get home. Although we’re biased as we live by the sea, the UK offers some beautiful sections of coastline and numerous opportunities to try out watersports. You might want to opt for an adrenaline rush and give coasteering a go (jumping off cliffs into the sea and exploring caves). For something a bit more leisurely, hire a couple of paddleboards or kayaks, then hug the shore and stop for a peaceful picnic when you spy a secluded spot. Take a look at Land and Wave based in Dorset for inspiration.
Or how about a bit of astronomy? Okay, it sounds more romantic when we call it stargazing! The Northumberland National Park is said to be one of the best places to star gaze and has been designated gold-tier status as a dark sky park! With multiple sky discovery sites in the area including observatories, shooting star suppers and night sky safaris this is quite the place to enjoy some star-lit romance!
If you were hoping to have a far-flung adventure on your honeymoon, then hiring a campervan and planning your very own exciting exploration could be a great alternative. With mile upon mile of coastline, rugged mountain ranges, designated National Parks and everything in-between, the UK has it all. You could do a huge road trip and tick off some of your must-see places, or take it slowly and spend time getting to know one area. When it comes to vehicle hire we love the look of Camptoo – it’s a bit like Airbnb but for campervans! Perfect for couples who just want to get away from it all, be together and aren’t too fussed about luxury!
The little details
Whatever you decide to do during your UK based honeymoon, try and think about the little details and maybe even plan a few surprises for one another. If you’re going for a picnic you could pack your favourite bottle of wine. Or find a quiet spot to watch the sunset together and have your wedding playlist on quietly in the background whilst reminiscing about your special day! Our biggest recommendation is to kick back and relax, and just because you’re close to home, it doesn’t mean you have to be contactable… switch the phones off and cosy up with your beloved!
