The Coastal Tents Gifting Guide

by Owen Relfe

This week on the blog it’s all about gifts! With Christmas just round the corner we thought it would be nice to come up with our very own gifting guide. Since starting our own business, we have got to know some really fantastic local companies and we know how much every single purchase means to small business owners. Our ultimate gifting guide includes fantastic products made by great people who are either local or making homemade, sustainable and beautiful offerings that we love. So whether you’re in full Christmas mode, looking for a wedding present for your soon to be husband or wife, searching for something as a special ‘thank you’ for your bridal party, or perhaps putting together your own bespoke wedding gift list, read on…

Turtle Doves – sustainable accessories We absolutely love the idea behind Turtle Doves, they turn pre-loved cashmere jumpers into cosy gloves, wrist warmers, socks, snoods and more! Each piece is unique due to the recycled nature of how they are made. Soft, snuggly and sustainable – what more could you ask for?

The Wild Flower Press – dried pressed flowers South West award winning florist Clair Lythgoe, not only creates the most spectacular fresh bouquets and arrangements for weddings, she also specialises in flower preservation. Framed in real glass on roped hangers her dried arrangements would make a gorgeous gift. Chose from autumn leaves to giant poppies, forest ferns to peonies, these really are lovely statement pieces. You could even chat to Clair about getting your wedding bouquet pressed straight after your own big day!

The Dandy Dog Company - dog accessories If you are potty about your own pooch or know a friend who is canine crazy you need to check out Dorset based, Dandy Dog Company. Choose from their selection of beautiful pottery dog bowls, neckerchiefs and snoods to keep your doggy cosy, and blankets and beds for a happy pup! – hand poured soy wax candles This lovely Dorset based candle company describe their products as ‘heart warming, soul soothing and uplifting’ and we couldn’t agree more – there is something so comforting about a flickering candle that fills your home with a delicate fragrance. Made in small batches using cruelty free and vegan ingredients the gorgeous candles come in recyclable containers and eco-friendly packaging too. They even do an espresso martini scented candle! Time to get your order in!

Made Weave Love – wall hangings These beautiful woven wall hangings are made by the very talented Phoebe. Prices start at just £49 for smaller pieces but you could even ask Phoebe to custom make you your very own piece or, buy her handspun yarn if you are creative yourself!

Epsom Bakehouse – online bread making courses If anyone you know has been inspired by the Great British Bake Off then this is the gift for them – a membership club for home bread bakers! With online bread baking classes and recipes each month, members will quickly learn the skills needed to bake with success at home! We love this idea – cooking courses in person are wonderful but this makes it so easy to be able to attend each live class or catch up later! The gift that keeps on giving!

Sharon James – abstract art Originally from London but now based in Dorset, Sharon James produces the most striking pieces of abstract art. If you want to add some serious colour and a talking point to your home then check out her incredible collection.

The Happy Blossoms – dried and fresh flowers Founded by a mother-daughter duo, you only have to hop onto their website to understand their mission – to bring amazing, unique and unusual flowers into people’s everyday lives! We love their bunches of fresh rainbow gypsophilia and their ‘celestial petals’ dried flowers from their 2021 winter range really are out of this world! Check them out for perfect gifting or for your very own wedding flowers!

Sophie Jenkins - art Dorset based artist Sophie Jenkins says she’s ‘inspired by the wonderful ever-changing light and colour that she sees in nature all around her’. Her landscape oil paintings featuring the beautiful Dorset coastline really are stunning. We adore the ones of our beloved Old Harry Rocks and with our soft spot for dogs, we also love her ‘black dog seascape’ series. Beautiful!

Citizens of Soil - single origin extra virgin olive oil This company are on a mission to bring Crete’s very best single estate extra virgin olive oil to a table near you. They champion small-scale farmers and are focussed on getting the original product to people who will appreciate it’s exquisite flavour rather than it being sold into bulk-blends where it is stripped of it’s own identity.

Coconut & Cotton – plastic-free and eco gifts Here in the South West we are quite fortunate to have seen a number of zero-waste and plastic-free shops pop up over the last couple of years. Shaftsbury’s ‘Coconut and Cotton’ is one of the best – it’s a beautiful store offering affordable sustainable alternatives to everyday living as well as ethical gifting. All their products have been carefully chosen and tried and tested so if you are keen to go green but not too sure where to start they will be able to help! From unpackaged food and drink to an ethical beauty range they really do have something for everything!

Carve Coffee Roasters If you’re keen to shop locally for even your most everyday items then check out Carve – Dorset based independent coffee roasters. Inspired by their love for adventure and fuelled by world-class coffee, local couple Sophie and Will produce some serious tasty speciality coffees.

Bramley - toiletries Made in the British countryside using natural ingredients, Bramley toiletries would be a real treat to receive. Their floral shampoos, conditioners and handcreams smell exquisite and they even have a range for kids and for dogs! Their products are vegan-friendly and they donate to Plantlife – a wild plant conservation charity who help to protect the UK’s endangered plants.

Laura’s Textisle – art Self taught textile artist Laura, is inspired by her location on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast. We absolutely love her creations especially her Cephalopod Collection and her bespoke textile maps. Originals are on fabric and thread but she also offers limited edition prints of some of her work.

From Sally With Love – stationary and cards Multi-award winning designer Sally (based in Somerset) specialises in beautiful, modern, unique wedding stationary. We recommend checking out her website if you’ve recently become engaged, but actually the reason we wanted to give her a shout out on our gift guide here is for her beautiful Christmas cards which can be found on her Etsy shop.

English Oak Vineyard – English sparking wine This Poole based vineyard is producing some seriously good English sparkling wine. Located just down the road from us means we can nip in and grab a bottle of our favourite – the Chinkapin blush. With low volume and high quality the winemakers here are focussed on quality over quantity and it certainly pays off. Their wines have been widely recognised and have won several awards for best in the country!

We hope this has given you some great gift inspiration. If you actually rather fancy some of these lovely products to unwrap for yourself on Christmas day, subtly leave this page open for your ‘someone special’ to find and hope they take the hint!
